On the 16th
March 1991 I purchased my Short wheelbase Series III
Land-Rover 2.25 Diesel. With it came a folder with
what was supposedly a service history. I was a bit
dubious as the vehicle was 15 years old at the time.
On opening the folder I found the usual, lots of
receipts for oil, bulbs etc..... In amongst this I
was amazed to find all the tax disks from new along
with the original invoice for the vehicle from the
day of purchase and the thing that I was most taken
with was the work check sheet that accompanies the
vehicle down the production line.
Below are
pictures of the three items click on the picture to
view a larger image.
First is the work check
sheet this lists all the additional items that need
to be added or changed to complete the order.

Secondly the invoice for
the vehicle. On the 3rd December 1976 the
Land Rover was purchased for an amazing £3915.40.
The average cost of a Land Rover today is approx
£20,000. If you look at the bottom left of the
invoice you will see the trade in vehicle a 1972
Morris Marina. This had a trade in value of £715.40
(why the 40p I will never know!!) the amazing thing
is the number plate would be worth a lot more than
that now.

Lastly the road tax cost
in 1976 for 12 months was £40. I would love to be
able to tax my bike for that much forget about the
car.
