AVG 8 Free Link Scanner Removal.

If you are an AVG Free user you will be aware that there is an updated program coming. AVG 8 Free.

I installed this and all went well no problems with the install, updates and the full scan all worked fine. It wasn't until a few days later I noticed that when I did a Google search there where small ticks or question marks by all the links. I also noticed that after I had clicked on one of the links that it took a long time to actually go to the page in question. I wasn't happy with this and started doing research. It turns out there are a lot of people with the same problem. Below is a method of installing AVG 8 Free without installing the Link Scanner which seems to causes all the problems:-

1) Uninstal AVG 7.5

2) Download AVG 8.0 Free Edition and save it the .exe to your C:\ Drive.

3) Click "Start" "Programs" "Run" then Copy & Paste the following line which is in red c:\?????????????? /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch where the green question marks are replace them with the exact name of the file you have just saved to the C drive then press Enter. (An easy way of doing this is to click on the file and press F2 which allows you to rename the file then highlight the name and copy it then paste it over the question marks.)

4) Follow the install instructions.

5) Open Advanced setup and click on "Tools" "Advanced Settings" "LinkScanner" and disable it. Even though its not there it thinks it is. Click "Apply"

6) Open Google and do a search. Everything should be as normal before AVG 8 Free.

I have done this and it works fine and everything is now back to its normal self.
